There were no confirmed naked-eye Hilal sighting reports from anywhere in USA and Canada on October 8, 2010. Hence we complete 30 days of Shawal and Zul Qidah 1431H starts on October 10, 2010.

Respected brothers/scholars in Islam,
Assalamualaikum wa-Rahmatullahi wa-Barakatuh.
I just spoke to members of Tabuk and Riyadh Hilal Committees in Saudi Arabia. They all confirmed that none of the 10 official committee members were able to sight the Hilal on Tuesday 10 August 2010, but some bedouins from Shagrah (near Riyadh) claimed sighing and reported to the Court.
When asked how come the astronomers could not see the Hilal with their own eyes or telescopes, the bedouins replied that the astronomers' telescopes are not as powerful as the their eye sights!
Unfortunately, the Saudi Supreme Court is happy to accept a single witness report (from a man, women or a slave) to start the month of Ramadan without further verification.

We have also suggested the ICOP members proposal that (1) the Umm Al-Qura calendar criteria should be changed to a predicted visibility model and (2) the court should only accept witness reports from a large group of people with the official Hilal committees.

وقد اقترحنا أيضا أن الاقتراح أعضاء نواتج والإنتاجية (1) تقويم القرى معايير أم ينبغي تغييرها لتصبح نموذجا الرؤية توقع و (2) ينبغي للمحكمة أن تقبل سوى تقارير الشهود من مجموعة كبيرة من الناس مع لجان الهلال الرسمية.

The Hilal Sighting Committee has received negative reports from many witnesses in Texas, Virginia, Michigan, and numerous other states
(PA,NJ,MI,AL,MD,OH,VA,TX) in the United States. For the time being, the Hilal Sighting Committee is continuing to accept further reports from the contiguous states of the United States and Canada.
A final decision will Insha Allah be posted on the Hilal Sighting Committee website at approximately 11:30 pm Eastern Time.
